Understanding and Avoiding Heat Spikes in Gel Nails
Hey nail pros! Let's chat about something that can catch clients off guard: heat spikes during gel curing. Here's what you need to know to keep your clients comfy and happy!
Why Do Heat Spikes Happen?
When gels cure, they release heat. A slow, controlled cure means minimal heat, but a fast cure can cause a sudden heat spike. This is more common with harder gels and UV/LED lamps.
Which Gels Are More Prone?
Soak-off gels (like Lastik, Planet Gel Polish): Less heat, fewer bonds.
Harder gels (like PUG, Lastik PLUS): More bonds, more heat.
UV/LED gels: Fast reaction, more heat.
How to Minimize Heat Spikes:
Use the Right Lamp: Match your lamp to your product. LED lamps with hard gel settings can help.
Apply in Layers: Use thinner layers, especially on thin or damaged nails.
Start with Softer Gels: Use a softer gel as a base layer to insulate the nail.
Flash Cure: Partially cure with short UV flashes before a full cure.
Educate Clients: Tell them to remove their hand if it gets too hot and press their fingertips on the lamp to relieve heat.
Pro Tips for Comfort!
Ask clients about past experiences with heat spikes.
Check nails for pre-existing damage.
Always educate clients about what to expect and how to handle heat spikes.
Remember, keeping your clients informed and comfortable is key to a great gel nail experience! If you have any questions, we're here to help!
