Lastik Clear 15ml — Builder in a Bottle
Clear Lastik BIAB
Lastik is Planet Nails’ signature BIAB — a flexible rubber base and builder gel in one bottle. Structured Manicure / BIAB The hero use. Applied as a builder over prepped natural nails, Lastik adds structure, an apex, and reinforcement at the stress point. Suitable for short to medium nails and tip extensions. Gel Polish Base Upgrade Replaces a standard thin gel polish base coat for clients whose nails need more support. Significantly improves retention and reduces peeling and breakage for flakey, thin, or brittle nails. Rubber Base Under Hard Gel or Acrylic Applied at Step 3 under PUG, Iconic, or acrylic for problem lifters. Provides a flexible bridging layer, heat buffer, and a file-to-soak-off removal pathway — file to the Lastik layer, then soak off the rest. Soft Gel Top Coat Can be used as a top coat in a pinch — remove the tacky layer after curing with The One Spray and a lint-free wipe. For maximum scratch resistance and stain resistance, a dedicated Planet Nails top coat is recommended. |
Planet Vogue Soft Gel Extensions and Full Cover Tips Used in the Planet Vogue system to adhere full-cover tips, build or adjust the apex, and infill the system on rebalance appointments. Also suitable as a builder for other full cover tip extensions at short to medium lengths. Nail Art Embedding Embed gems, crystals, dried flowers, striping tape, angel paper, water transfers, and raw glitters. Can be mixed with pigments, glitters, and powders for 3D art effects including florals and lace. Gel Dip System Replace the resin in a gel dip system with Lastik. Apply in place of resin, pour dipping powder over, and cure each layer. Tip Overlay Apply over tip extensions as a structural overlay to add strength and a finished apex. |
| About Lastik |
Lastik is the OG — the original and most-loved product in the Planet Nails professional range, and the default rubber base and builder gel for most clients. A true flexible hybrid, it functions as a rubber base coat, a builder gel, or both in the same service.
Commonly known as a Builder in a Bottle (BIAB) or structured manicure gel, Lastik is designed for clients whose natural nails need support: thin, brittle, splitting, flakey, or flexible nail plates. Rather than relying on gel polish alone — which is only suitable for the roughly 30% of clients with naturally strong, healthy nails — Lastik builds a cushioning layer that reinforces the natural nail from underneath and flexes with it, dramatically reducing breakage and improving wear time.
Its flexible cure means it won’t crack or pop off when the nail bends, making it particularly well-suited to clients with naturally flexible or tissue-thin nails. For clients who prefer a harder-curing result, Lastik PLUS offers a thicker, harder-setting option in the same soak-off format.
Once you’ve tried Lastik, it’s hard to imagine a service without it. As the name suggests — it sticks and stays.
| Application — Standard Protocol |
| 1 | Sanitise nails using The One Spray. Push back the cuticles and buff to remove all traces of shine. |
| 2 | Apply nail tips if required, cut and blend (optional step). |
| 3 | Apply PN Nail Prep to the natural nail only. Allow to dry (optional step). |
| 4 | Apply PN Sticky Bond sparingly to the natural nail only. |
| 5 | Apply a base coat layer of Clear Lastik over the entire nail. Do not touch the cuticle or side wall areas. Seal all sides of the free edge. Cure 60–90 seconds. |
| 6 | Apply a thin wetting layer of Lastik PLUS (don’t cure). Pick up a moderate bead of PLUS starting 1mm away from the cuticle. Float the gel over the nail — use a liner brush to draw product to the sides without disturbing the apex. Seal all sides of the free edge. Cure 60–90 seconds. |
| 7 | Repeat with another layer of PLUS if needed. Seal the free edge and cure. |
| 8 | Remove the tacky layer with The One Spray and a PN Lint Free Wipe. |
| 9 | File to an even, smooth finish. Buff with a buffer to remove scratches. |
| 10 | Wash hands thoroughly to remove product residue and dust. |
| 11 | Apply The One Spray to a nail wipe to sanitise. The nail is now ready for top coat or gel polish colour. |
| 12 | Apply Planet Gel Polish Top Coat. Seal all sides of the free edge. Cure 60 seconds — wipe after curing. |
Scrub Coat Protocol — For Retention Issues
The scrub coat is a targeted retention technique for clients who return with lifting or have a prior history of retention issues. It is not the default starting point for every new client.
Using a gel brush, work a small amount of Lastik into the nail plate with firm circular pressure (Step 1 — adhesion). Before curing, apply a continuous layer over the top using the bottle brush (Step 2 — cushioning). Both steps are required. Cure as normal.
| Removal |
| 1 | De-bulk the surface using the 100-grit side of a 100/180 file or an e-file de-bulking bit. File only the product surface — do not touch the natural nail. The more you de-bulk, the faster the soak-off will be. |
| 2 | Soak fingertips in acetone for approximately 10–15 minutes. PN recommends the quick soak bowl method with hot water in the base container to warm the acetone and speed the process. |
| 3 | Gently slide off remaining product with an orangewood stick or soak-off scraper, working from cuticle to free edge. |
| 4 | Buff lightly with a buffer to remove any residue. Do not over-buff or apply pressure. |
| 5 | Nails are ready for a fresh application. |
A note on removal frequency
Planet Nails strongly advises against constant full removal and re-application. Every removal removes additional layers of natural nail. Where possible, de-bulk down to a very thin layer and apply fresh product on top — the nail plate stays intact and the shine removal step is not required again.
| Frequently Asked Questions |
|
What is BIAB? |
|
BIAB stands for Builder in a Bottle — a builder gel in bottle form with a brush applicator. The terms BIAB, structured manicure, and soft gel overlay are widely used interchangeably in the industry. Lastik is a BIAB product. |
|
What’s the difference between Lastik and a standard gel polish base coat? |
|
A standard gel polish base coat is a thin adhesion product — it bonds gel polish to the nail but provides no structural support. Lastik is a builder. It adds thickness, structure, and an apex. Gel polish is only suitable for the roughly 30% of clients with naturally strong nails. Everyone else needs a builder product like Lastik. |
|
Can Lastik be used as both a base and a builder? |
|
Yes — this is one of the things that makes Lastik so versatile. As a flexible hybrid, it works as a rubber base (Step 3), a builder (Step 4), or both. Using it at both steps is the standard approach for thin, flexible, or brittle nails. |
|
Is Lastik HEMA-free? |
|
No. Lastik contains HEMA. For clients with a confirmed HEMA allergy or sensitivity, use Lastik HF (HEMA-free and TPO-free, same flexible hybrid format) or Stick ’n Float (HEMA-free rubber base, Step 3 only). |
|
What’s the difference between Lastik and Lastik PLUS? |
|
Both are flexible hybrid soak-off builder gels. Lastik has a medium viscosity (rating 2) and a flexible cure (flexibility rating 2) — ideal for short nails and flexible nail plates. Lastik PLUS is thicker (Medium Thick, rating 3), cures harder (flexibility rating 3: Some Flexibility), provides better scratch resistance, and can be used for short sculptures. PLUS is the better choice for clients needing a harder, more durable result. |
|
What’s the difference between Lastik and Lastik HF? |
|
Lastik HF is the HEMA-free and TPO-free version. Same flexible hybrid format, same flexibility rating, same soak-off removal. Key differences: HF is thinner in viscosity (1.5: Med Low vs Lastik’s 2: Medium) and is a fast builder formula. If you’re switching from standard Lastik to HF, expect a noticeably thinner consistency — this is normal and intentional. |
|
How thick should I apply Lastik? |
|
Maximum layer thickness is 1.5–2mm per coat. Applying thicker risks under-curing (sensitisation), heat spikes, and nail damage. Longer nails are built in two or three thin layers — never one thick coat. |
|
My client keeps lifting — what should I do? |
|
First, review prep — the nail plate must be shine-free, dead-skin-free, and chalky before any product. If prep is thorough and lifting persists, introduce the scrub coat protocol. If lifting continues, trial Lastik HF or Stick ’n Float, which use different adhesion chemistry. For oily or sweaty nails, Stick ’n Float with Primer is a stronger option. |
|
Can I infill Lastik instead of removing it every time? |
|
Yes — and Planet Nails strongly recommends infills over full removals where possible. De-bulk down to a very thin layer with an e-file or 100-grit file, then apply fresh product on top. The natural nail stays intact, and you don’t need to remove the shine underneath again. |
|
Does Lastik cure tack-free? |
|
No — Lastik cures with a tacky (inhibition) layer. This is normal. Remove the tacky layer with The One Spray and a PN Lint Free Wipe before filing or applying the next product. |
