MAGIC HOLO

Chrome Mirror Effect / Holographic Pigment

Introducing Magic Holo — a fine holographic chrome pigment that breaks all the rules. Unlike traditional holo pigments that turn every base colour grey, Magic Holo lets your chosen base shine through, creating a stunning rainbow shimmer over the top. Think of it as an almost-clear holo: pure prismatic sparkle layered over the colour of your choice, opening up endless creative possibilities.

How to Achieve a Holographic Chrome Look

1

Apply the base colour of choice — and this is where Magic Holo really shines. Because the base colour comes through, you can play with any shade you like: deep jewel tones for a dramatic holo, pastels for a dreamy iridescent effect, or even nudes for a subtle prismatic finish. Black bases will give the closest result to a traditional holo.

2

Apply Planet Luxe Gloss Top Coat (perfect for chromes) or Glaze Hard Gel Top Coat to the nail and cure for 60 seconds in the PN Speciality Dual Cure Lamp.

3

Use your PN Burnishing Brush to first cover the nail in Magic Holo chrome powder to ensure full coverage, then use the burnishing brush, a silicone pigment applicator or your gloved finger to burnish the chrome into the top coat.

4

Dust the nails well with a soft dusting brush to remove all excess powder.

5

Apply Planet Gel Polish Stain-Resistant Top Coat, Planet Luxe Gloss or Glaze top coat, ensuring you cap the extension free edge well, and cure for 60–90 seconds in the PN Speciality Dual Cure Lamp.

Chrome Troubleshooting

Chrome looking glittery instead of having a holographic finish

This is an indication that it has been applied over a top coat or colour that cures with a tacky layer, or that the tack free top coat chosen hasn't been cured for long enough. Not removing the excess chrome thoroughly before applying your sealant layer of top coat can also cause a glittery appearance. Mirror and holographic finishes can only be achieved when a tack free top coat is used.

Not all tack free top coats can be used. If your powder isn't sticking:

1.

Try wiping the top coat with alcohol after curing, wait for the nail to dry and try burnishing the chrome again.

2.

Try curing the tack free top coat for a shorter period of time, like 30 seconds instead of 60 seconds, before burnishing the chrome.

Chrome chipping or peeling

This can be due to a few reasons, and you have a few different options to help prevent this in future:

1.

Try applying Sticky Bond to the extension free edge before applying your final sealant layer of top coat.

2.

You can also seal your chrome with a layer of Lastik or Planet Gel Polish Base Coat (curing the layer) before applying your sealant layer of top coat.

3.

Opt for a hard gel top coat like Glaze instead of a soft gel top coat — Glaze cures harder than other top coats, which can help prevent chipping or peeling.

The chrome looks patchy

This happens when not enough chrome was applied before buffing it into the nail. This is why we recommend applying the powder liberally to the nail surface before burnishing or buffing the chrome into the top coat.
