This is the new formula of PUG Clear — and it's the cleanest version yet.

PUG Clear TPO Free is a permanent, file-off hard gel in a honey-like, medium-thick consistency that flows easily from the brush, self-levels beautifully, and cures to a strong, high-gloss hard gel finish. PUG Clear has always been HEMA-free — and now it's TPO-free too, formulated in the EU to EU cosmetic regulations, joining PUG Bliss, Biscuit, Cover, Pinky and Rosy in the TPO-free PUG lineup.

The TPO-free formula also runs cooler than the original PUG Clear — making it a more comfortable experience for heat-sensitive clients without any compromise to strength, durability, or finish.

Available in 25ml and 45ml. Same PUG performance. Cleaner formula. Lower heat.

New Formula — What's changed?

PUG Clear has always been HEMA-free — this formula is now also TPO-free, manufactured in the EU to EU cosmetic regulations. The TPO-free formula runs at a lower heat than the original PUG Clear, making it a better option for clients with heat sensitivity. Strength, viscosity, cure time, and finish are unchanged. The original PUG Clear formula remains available.

USE CASES

Structured Hard Gel Manicure / Gel Overlay

PUG Clear's honey-like consistency flows easily over the nail, self-levels, and builds structure and an apex with minimal fuss. Applied over a Planet Nails rubber base, it delivers a durable, high-gloss hard gel overlay that wears for up to four weeks without cracking or chipping. The TPO-free formula makes it a strong choice for clients with ingredient sensitivities or heat sensitivity.

Tip Overlay

Apply over tip extensions as a structural overlay. The fluid consistency flows over the tip and blends into the natural nail seamlessly. File to refine shape and surface after curing.

Sculptures Over Forms

PUG Clear can be used to sculpt extensions over forms. For longer sculptures or high-structure builds requiring maximum working time, PUG Builder Clear (thicker, slower-levelling) is the better choice — but PUG Clear is well suited to shorter, lighter sculptures where a flowing consistency is an advantage.

Nail Art — Glitter and Chrome Encapsulation

The crystal-clear formula makes PUG Clear ideal for encapsulating glitters, chrome powders, foils, and flat nail art elements. Applied as a cap over nail art, it seals and protects while keeping colours vivid and true.

Hard Gel Infill / Rebalance

Use PUG Clear to infill and rebalance existing hard gel overlays at the regrowth appointment. De-bulk as needed, apply to the new growth area and blend over the existing product, then cure and file to finish.

APPLICATION — STANDARD PROTOCOL

1 Sanitise nails using The One Spray. Push back cuticles and buff to remove all traces of shine.
2 Apply nail tips or forms if required, cut and blend (optional step).
3 Apply PN Nail Prep to the natural nail only. Allow to dry (optional step).
4 Apply PN Sticky Bond or Sticky Bond HF sparingly to the natural nail only. Allow to become tacky.
5 Apply a base coat layer of your chosen Planet Nails rubber base over the entire nail. Do not touch the cuticle or sidewall areas. Seal all sides of the free edge. Cure 60–90 seconds.
6 Pick up a bead of PUG Clear with your gel brush. Place starting 1mm away from the cuticle and float the product across the nail, building the apex as needed. Seal all sides of the free edge. Cure 60 seconds (405nm LED) or 2 minutes (365nm UV).
7 Repeat with a second layer if additional structure or length is required. Seal the free edge and cure.
8 Remove the tacky layer with The One Spray and a PN Lint Free Wipe.
9 File to an even, smooth finish. Buff with a buffer to remove scratches.
10 Wash hands thoroughly to remove product residue and dust.
11 Apply The One Spray to a nail wipe to sanitise. The nail is now ready for gel polish colour or top coat.
First-time clients — apply thin
Always apply a thin first layer on new clients before building up. This allows you to gauge heat sensitivity before proceeding to a full build. While PUG Clear TPO Free runs cooler than the original formula, individual sensitivity always varies — a thin first layer is best practice with any hard gel builder.
Heat spike protocol
If a client experiences heat during curing, instruct them to remove their hand from the lamp immediately and press their fingertips flat on top of the lamp. This relieves the sensation and the infrared sensor will switch the lamp off automatically. Once comfortable, they can return their hand and the lamp will restart the full timer.

ABOUT PUG CLEAR

PUG — Planet Ultimate Gel — was built on a love of dogs and a determination to make hard gel less intimidating. Strong, self-levelling, and low-heat from the start, PUG Clear became the fluid, easy-application member of the PUG family — a honey-like hard gel that flows, levels, and cures to a high-gloss finish without the drama of traditional hard gels.

This TPO-free formula is the next step. PUG Clear has always been HEMA-free — this update adds TPO-free to that, joining the growing number of PUG shades formulated to EU cosmetic standards. The result is a cleaner ingredient profile, a lower heat output during curing, and a more comfortable experience for sensitive clients, without changing anything about the performance technicians rely on.

PUG Clear combines the adhesion of a base gel, the strength and durability of a hard builder, and the high-gloss scratch-resistant finish of a top glaze — all in one. It is suitable for overlays, tip overlays, sculptures, and nail art encapsulation. The PUG family offers a solution for every hard gel need and working style. For a thicker, slower-levelling option with extended working time, see PUG Builder Clear. For precision work — armouring, restoration, dual form extensions, and builds where self-levelling is not wanted — see PUG Fortify, the thixotropic line of PUG gels (available in Clear, Bliss and Rosy, all TPO-free). For a hard gel in a brush-on bottle format, see PUGGLE.

Available in 25ml and 45ml.

UNDERSTANDING HEAT SPIKES

Every gel curing reaction releases some heat as part of the chemistry. When the cure is slow and controlled, heat dissipates gradually and the client feels little to nothing. When it is fast, heat is released all at once — and the client may experience a heat spike.

Hard gel builders form more bonds during curing than soft gels, which means more heat is generated as a category. PUG Clear TPO Free is formulated with controlled photo initiators to regulate this process, and the TPO-free formula runs cooler than the original PUG Clear — but individual sensitivity still varies and hard gel conversations with new clients are always worthwhile.

Key factors that increase heat spike risk:

Thick application More product = more bonds = more heat. Apply in thin, even layers.
Thin or damaged nails Less nail plate = less insulation. A Planet Nails rubber base applied underneath provides a buffer layer between the natural nail and the hard gel above.
High lamp output A faster cure releases heat all at once. Use the Low Heat mode on your PN lamp for sensitive clients.
Client history Always ask new clients whether they have experienced heat spikes with hard gel before, and examine the nail plate for signs of pre-existing damage before starting.

Educate every new client about the possibility of a heat spike and what to do if it occurs before the service begins. A brief conversation upfront prevents a painful experience mid-service.

REMOVAL

PUG Clear is a permanent hard gel — it is file off only and cannot be removed with acetone.

1 De-bulk the surface using the 100-grit side of a 100/180 file or an e-file de-bulking bit. File only the product surface — do not touch the natural nail.
2 Continue filing carefully until the product layer is thin. Switch to a finer grit to remove remaining product close to the nail surface without damage.
3 If a Planet Nails rubber base was applied beneath, file down to the base layer and soak off the remaining base with acetone — approximately 10–15 minutes. This significantly reduces total removal time.
4 Buff lightly with a buffer to remove any residue and smooth the nail surface.
5 Nails are ready for a fresh application.
Infill vs full removal
Planet Nails strongly recommends infilling over full removal where possible. De-bulk down to a thin even layer and apply fresh product on top — the natural nail stays intact and prep time at the next appointment is significantly reduced.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is PUG Clear TPO Free?

PUG Clear TPO Free is the updated formula of PUG Clear — always HEMA-free, and now TPO-free too, manufactured in the EU to EU cosmetic regulations. It has the same honey-like medium-thick consistency, the same cure time, and the same hard gel strength and finish as the original. The TPO-free formula runs at a lower heat during curing, making it a more comfortable option for heat-sensitive clients.

What is the difference between PUG Clear and PUG Builder Clear?

Both are permanent hard gels that file off. PUG Clear has a honey-like, medium-thick consistency that flows and self-levels readily — ideal for overlays, encapsulation, and a faster application style. PUG Builder Clear is thicker, self-levels more slowly, and gives you extended working time for sculpting and high-structure builds. PUG Clear TPO Free is HEMA-free (as PUG Clear always has been) and now also TPO-free; PUG Builder Clear is HEMA-free only at this stage.

What is the difference between PUG Clear TPO Free and PUGGLE?

PUG Clear comes in a jar and is applied with a separate gel brush. PUGGLE is a hard gel liquid builder in a bottle with a built-in oval brush — a thinner, more fluid formula designed to self-level from the brush with minimal manipulation. Both are HEMA-free and TPO-free. PUGGLE suits technicians who prefer a brush-on bottle workflow; PUG Clear suits those who prefer working from a jar with a separate brush.

Is PUG Clear TPO Free suitable for sensitive clients?

Yes — the TPO-free formula runs at a lower heat than the original PUG Clear, making it a better option for clients with heat sensitivity. It is also HEMA-free, making it suitable for clients who have moved away from HEMA-containing products. As with all hard gel builders, individual sensitivity varies — always apply a thin first layer on new clients and have a heat spike conversation before the service begins.

What base should I use under PUG Clear?

Any Planet Nails rubber base — Stick 'n Float, Lastik, or Lastik HF — whichever best suits your client. A rubber base provides a flexible bridging layer between the natural nail and the hard gel above, improves retention for problem lifters, and creates a soak-off pathway that significantly reduces removal time. Always apply Sticky Bond or Sticky Bond HF to the natural nail before the base coat.

Can PUG Clear be soaked off?

No — PUG Clear is a permanent hard gel and must be filed off. However, if a Planet Nails rubber base was applied underneath, you can file through the hard gel layer down to the base and soak off the remaining base with acetone, significantly reducing total removal time.

Which size should I choose — 25ml or 45ml?

The 25ml is ideal for trialling the TPO-free formula or for technicians who use PUG Clear as one of several products in rotation. The 45ml is the better value option for technicians who use PUG Clear as a primary builder across a full client schedule.
