Before you choose — know your hardness scale

PLUS cures harder than Clear Lastik but not as hard as Planet Iconic or PUG. Choose PLUS when you want the ease of a self-levelling, soak-off builder with more hardness and scratch resistance than standard Lastik.

PLUS is still technically a soft gel — it is very strong but retains some flexibility. It is not recommended for long sculpted extensions. Short to medium sculptures are well within its range.

Use Cases

Structured Manicure / BIAB

The thicker, harder-curing choice for BIAB services. PLUS builds a strong, durable apex with superior scratch resistance and a no-file application that self-levels beautifully. 3–4 weeks wear before rebalancing.

Short to Medium Sculptures

PLUS can be used for short sculptures over forms or tips. It has replaced Sculpt in the PN range. Not recommended for long extensions — as a soft gel it retains flexibility, which limits structural integrity at longer lengths.

Planet Vogue Soft Gel Extensions and Full Cover Tips

Use PLUS instead of standard Lastik over Vogue tips when additional strength or durability is needed, or when infilling Vogues. Works in the exact same way as Clear Lastik for this service.

Tip Overlay

Apply over tip extensions for a harder, more durable structural overlay than standard Lastik. Suitable for clients who need more resilience at the free edge or wear longer lengths.

Nail Art Embedding

Adhere gems and crystals, encapsulate glitter, dried flowers, and nail art embellishments. The thicker consistency holds elements in place well during application.

Do I need a base coat with PLUS?

PLUS can be used without a base coat on healthy, strong nails. However, when applying a harder-curing product over thin, brittle, flexible, flakey, or lift-prone nails, a rubber base coat is strongly recommended.

A layer of Clear Lastik, Lastik HF, or Stick ’n Float at Step 3 provides a flexible bridging layer between the natural nail and the harder-curing PLUS, which helps prevent lifting, peeling, and chipping at the cuticle area.

About Lastik PLUS

Lastik PLUS is the thicker, harder-curing member of the Lastik family — and the product that replaced Sculpt in the Planet Nails range. If you loved Lastik but found yourself wanting more hardness, more scratch resistance, or a thicker consistency for infills and short sculptures, PLUS was built for you.

PLUS can do everything standard Lastik can do — overlays, structured manicures, tip overlays, extensions, nail art embedding, Planet Vogue services — and adds short to medium sculptures to the list. Its self-levelling formula means effortless apex creation with minimal filing, and its blue-toned formulation contains actives to help prevent yellowing over time.

It cures harder than standard Lastik but remains a soft gel at its core — which means soak-off removal, 3–4 weeks wear, compatibility with all PN systems, and the same infill-friendly approach. De-bulk and start fresh rather than removing fully every time.

PLUS is not a hard gel replacement. For maximum hardness and long sculpted extensions, PUG or Iconic is the correct choice. PLUS sits between Lastik and hard gel — harder than soft, easier than hard, soak-off all the way.

Application — Standard Protocol
1 Sanitise nails using The One Spray. Push back the cuticles and buff to remove all traces of shine.
2 Apply nail tips if required, cut and blend (optional step).
3 Apply PN Nail Prep to the natural nail only. Allow to dry (optional step).
4 Apply PN Sticky Bond sparingly to the natural nail only.
5 Optional but recommended for problem nails: Apply a base coat layer of Clear Lastik, Lastik HF, or Stick ’n Float over the entire nail. Do not touch the cuticle or side wall areas. Seal all sides of the free edge. Cure 60–90 seconds.
6 Apply a thin wetting layer of Lastik PLUS (don’t cure). Pick up a moderate bead of PLUS starting 1mm away from the cuticle. Float the gel over the nail — use a liner brush to draw product to the sides without disturbing the apex. Seal all sides of the free edge. Cure 60–90 seconds.
7 Repeat with another layer of PLUS if needed. Seal the free edge and cure.
8 Remove the tacky layer with The One Spray and a PN Lint Free Wipe.
9 File to an even, smooth finish. Buff with a buffer to remove scratches. Compatible with both hand filing and e-file.
10 Wash hands thoroughly to remove product residue and dust.
11 Apply The One Spray to a nail wipe to sanitise. The nail is now ready for top coat or gel polish colour.
12 Apply Planet Gel Polish Top Coat. Seal all sides of the free edge. Cure 60 seconds — wipe after curing.
Removal
1 De-bulk the surface using the 100-grit side of a 100/180 file or an e-file de-bulking bit. File only the product surface — do not touch the natural nail. The more you de-bulk, the faster the soak-off will be.
2 Soak fingertips in acetone for approximately 10–15 minutes. PN recommends the quick soak bowl method with hot water in the base container to warm the acetone and speed the process.
3 Gently slide off remaining product with an orangewood stick or soak-off scraper, working from cuticle to free edge.
4 Buff lightly with a buffer to remove any residue. Do not over-buff or apply pressure.
5 Nails are ready for a fresh application.

A note on removal frequency and soak time

Planet Nails strongly advises against constant full removal and re-application. Every removal removes additional layers of natural nail. Where possible, de-bulk down to a very thin layer and apply fresh product on top — the nail plate stays intact and the shine removal step is not required again.

PLUS cures harder than standard Lastik because its molecules end up more tightly locked together after curing — this is the formula difference that makes PLUS the better choice for durability and for clients exposed to more chemicals in their daily lives (swimming instructors, hairdressers, nurses, and similar). The trade-off is that this tighter molecular structure means PLUS will take longer to soak off than standard Lastik. De-bulking thoroughly before soaking will significantly reduce the time required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between Lastik and Lastik PLUS?

Both are soak-off flexible hybrid builder gels. Lastik has a medium viscosity (rating 2) and a flexible cure (flexibility rating 2) — ideal for short nails and very flexible nail plates. PLUS is thicker (Medium Thick, rating 3), cures harder (flexibility rating 3: Some Flexibility), has superior scratch resistance, a blue-toned formula to resist yellowing, and can be used for short sculptures. Choose PLUS for clients who need a more durable result or if you prefer working with a thicker gel.

Has PLUS replaced Sculpt?

Yes. Lastik PLUS has replaced Sculpt in the Planet Nails range. If you previously used Sculpt, PLUS is the current equivalent. It offers all the same capabilities — overlays, structured manicures, tip overlays, and short to medium sculptures — in the same soak-off format.

Do I need a base coat under PLUS?

Not always — but for thin, brittle, flexible, flakey, or lift-prone nails, a rubber base coat under PLUS is strongly recommended. Clear Lastik, Lastik HF, or Stick ’n Float at Step 3 provides a flexible bridging layer that helps prevent lifting and peeling. On healthy, strong nails, PLUS can be applied directly.

Can PLUS be used for long nail extensions?

No. PLUS is a soft gel and retains some flexibility even at full cure. It is well-suited to short and medium sculptures but is not recommended for long sculpted extensions. For long lengths and maximum structural integrity, PUG or Iconic is the correct product.

Is Lastik PLUS HEMA-free?

No. Lastik PLUS contains HEMA. For clients with a confirmed HEMA allergy or sensitivity, use Lastik HF PLUS instead — the HEMA-free and TPO-free version with comparable thickness and hardness.

How does PLUS compare to PUG or Iconic?

PLUS cures harder than standard Lastik but softer than PUG or Iconic. PUG and Iconic are hard gel / polygel products that file off rather than soak off, and are the correct choice for longer sculptures and maximum durability. PLUS sits between Lastik and hard gel — harder than a standard soft gel, easier to remove than a hard gel, soak-off all the way.

Can I infill PLUS instead of removing it every time?

Yes — Planet Nails strongly recommends infills over full removals where possible. De-bulk down to a very thin base layer with an e-file or 100-grit file, then apply fresh PLUS on top. The natural nail stays intact and you do not need to remove the shine underneath again.

Does Lastik PLUS cure tack-free?

No — PLUS cures with a tacky (inhibition) layer. Remove with The One Spray and a PN Lint Free Wipe before filing or applying product on top.
